We kicked off the week by joining our friends Stephen and Catalina at their church in the charming little farming town of San Carlos. It was wonderful to catch up with them and meet the warm folks in their congregation.
Back home that evening, as we were getting ready for bed, we discovered we had a surprise visitor gazing down at us from his perch on the wall. The photo really doesn’t capture the drama—his legs easily spanned two inches (or more, depending on how precisely we’re measuring spider legs). Thankfully, just your friendly neighborhood non-venomous spider.

Our Airbnb hosts, Jesús and Liliana, have been absolute gems. They invited us for a spontaneous car ride around town and gave us the insider’s tour of Punta del Este. The grand finale? They insisted on treating us to ice cream at a fantastic little spot. We tried to protest, but they weren’t having it—classic Uruguayan hospitality in action.

And then there’s yesterday’s highlight: While walking to school, I fished my phone out of my back pocket and—classic Scott move—I accidentally launched my flashcards onto the ground completely unaware of it. Within seconds a massive trash truck came roaring up behind us, horn blaring, driver peering through the front window and pointing emphatically at my scattered cards like he was directing air traffic.
Who does that?
Apparently the trash-truck guys in Maldonado do. Hero of the day!

I want that life! Safe travels!
How wonderful to explore over there! Glad the spider wasn't venomous!
Love you and praying for you!🥰🥰🥰
