The amazing thing about life is that you are never to old to learn. But seriously I feel a little sheepish to even admit my lack of knowledge for which I am sure you all are far more educated.
It wasn't until a few years ago that I discovered there was no such creature as a shoe fly. Yes, a shoe fly! All through my childhood we sang a song that goes, "shoe fly don't bother me." I never bothered to check the spelling and always assumed that it must have been some kind of fly that is associated with shoes. If you change the spelling to, "shoo fly" it makes all the difference.
Fast forward to last week and we are riding through a forested area in France and Sarah says, "I have never heard a real Cuckoo bird." And I'm thinking in my head, "Duh, that's because they live in old clocks and only come out on the hour and every half hour."
And then it happened, out of the forest I heard Cuckoo, Cuckoo. It sounded exactly like the clock and then it dawned on me who is the real Cuckoo. I may be wrong but I have this hunch I'm not alone.
Keep it rolling
Scott and Sarah
I wondered why we call a certain bird in dutch a hop. Till you hear the bird…… and if you see the bird, it looks marvellous.
Hey Scott do the wild Cuckoo birds tell time??? 😆
Love seeing your updates! We’ve been remodeling our house and I think josh is concerned by the names I make up for tools that I don’t know the name of…..
Lol, Scott 😂
Yep.... pretty weird hearing the real thing in the forests. Maybe just Mockingbirds imitating the clocks?
