We have been planning this trip for over a year now and we finally leave tomorrow. We are renting a one way mini van to take us and our tandem all the way to Astoria, Oregon. We plan to arrive in Astoria this Sunday, return the car on Monday and start pedalling. From that point on we have no concrete plans other than hopefully finishing in Yorktown, Virginia.
Unfortunately we took a ride this past week and we were hit by a 30 mph gust of wind that blew us off the road. We ended up crashing and I (Scott) tweaked my neck. After several days of pain I went to a chiropractor and sure enough, I compressed a vertebrae in my neck. Didn't see that coming but we are moving forward and plan to heal on the road. Great way to start eh?
We are thankful to be able to take this journey with all of you and we expect to face some challenging and some amazing moments. We hope to post updates on a regular basis as we ride along. Please feel free to comment on our posts and encourage us along the way. With some anxiety and a lot of wonder, we will give you a shout from the Oregon coast.
Some of you have asked if it would be okay to invite others to follow our trip. Send them the following info and they can join.

Great that you got that initial crash out of the way! It should be smooth sailing from now on. Not! Ride safe and enjoy the journey.
