I received this text from the friend of ours who suggested we go North and avoid Kentucky.
"Buckhorn, Hindman and Hazard are all flooded (7 out of 9 bridges in Hazard are out of service). The TransAm goes through all three of these, and this section is extremely difficult with few options to stay. Its also a very, very poor area."
Thankfully we went North through Missouri or our trip would have ended. Our fortune for sure, but it was many other's misfortune which is nothing to rejoice over. Having travelled this country and seeing the incredible kindness of neighbors, I can only imagine, and pray, that people will help each other out.
