The Road to Budapest: 08/26/25
We left camp a bit late, which gave us a chance to sleep in a little. By 9:00 AM, we had everything packed and were ready to hit the road. Another beautiful day awaited us.

Ten miles into the ride, we stopped at a café for coffee. The display case immediately caught my eye, and I couldn’t resist ordering a dish that looked like chicken with cauliflower, broccoli, and a creamy, cheesy sauce, topped with a tomato and served over rice. It was exactly what I needed to satisfy my hunger!

The rest of the ride featured a variety of surfaces: deeply rutted singletrack, double track, asphalt, and cobblestone. The mix kept things exciting and challenging. The best part, though, was riding into Budapest. Navigating the city required constant vigilance—anything and everything could suddenly appear in your path!

I loved the ride, but if you ask Sarah, it was a definite "no bueno!" To be fair, you’d have to be a bit crazy to ride on the back of a tandem with me through a bustling city, but she handled it like a champ. We arrived at our B&B in one piece. The accommodations were up a flight of stairs with no elevator—always a fun challenge with a tandem bike and heaps of gear—but the place was perfect, right in the heart of town. To our surprise, it had an interesting store on the first floor which we avoided.

We ended the day with a walk around the city. Our first stop was the Jewish Quarter, where we visited Szimpla Kert, the original ruin bar. These quirky venues are set in abandoned buildings left vacant after World War II and transformed into eclectic drinking spots filled with unique decor and fascinating objects.
From there, we headed to the Parliament building along the Danube. Words can’t do justice to its stunning architecture and sheer grandeur. We’ll post pictures to spare my inadequate descriptions.
Total distance: 39 miles
